School of Applied Arts and Design

There are more than 2,200 current students in School of Applied Arts and Design. All the graduates have a strong ability of practical application. It has cultured thousands of graduates for the national economic and social development, and the graduates of previous employment rate was above 95 percent, and the school achievement is fully affirmed by the society.

School of Applied Arts and Design take cultivating the applied design talents as the goal with distinct unique application-oriented features. At present, it has independent laboratories and the teaching building with pottery workshops, glass workshops, photography workshops, modeling workshops and teacher-student works exhibition hall, modern design center, design rooms, and multi-media classrooms.

School of Applied Arts and Design has strong faculty with advanced teaching facilities. In teaching, the School actively introduce advanced educational concepts and methods, and often organize teachers and students to participate in international academic exchange activities. In art and design practice and creation, the faculty and students won many prizes in design competition in domestic and professional design awards selection, fully reflects the excellent level of college teaching and practice. Such as: the successful bidder of 48th World Table Tennis Championships Emblem and Mascot Design; the successful bidder of XIV FINA World Championships Emblem and Mascot Design; the successful bidder of ISU Short Track Speed Skating World Championship Design of the Emblem; Bronze prize on paintings in the National Art Exhibition; the successful bidder of Expo Public Participation Pavilion Award of Design by students; Gold, Silver and Bronze prizes in the National College Advertising Art Competition by students; Bronze prize as "Eastern Star" in National Undergraduate Design Competition on packaging design; Bronze prize in China Packaging Design Competition. In the product design and industrial design, the School won numerous awards such as Shanghai International Industry Fair, Germany Red Dot and China Red Star Design Award; Silver prize on the National “Chint-Cup” Industrial Design Grand Prix. Many product designs have been adopted and put into mass production by enterprises. In addition, faculty and students also participated in the design of many projects with broad social impact, and there are more than one hundred product designs got the national design patent.

At present, the college has three art majors ("visual communication design", "environmental design", "product design") and an engineering undergraduate specialty ("industrial design"). These professionals based on modern art design theory, with the social and industrial development as the background, combined with the positioning of Shanghai as an international metropolis, implemented interdisciplinary and university-industry interaction. And they are training application-oriented design talents and management personnel with the strong market awareness, innovation and strong practical ability, aesthetic ability, entrepreneurial ability, reflecting the new economic era design features.
