A. Basic Requirements for Applying to Tibet University
To apply for studying at Tibet University as an International student, applicants must:
Be in good health
Be above 18 years of age old and no older than 50 years of age
Be of good character and conduct
Agree to follow all the laws and regulations of the People's Republic of China
Agree to follow all the regulations of Tibet University
B. How to Apply
Step 1:
The applicant contacts the TU International Students Office (email at: lxsb@utibet.edu.cn) to request the application form and information for studying at TU.
Step 2:
Fill out the application form (type in English or Chinese), print, sign, scan and e-mail the completed application, with a passport-sized, headshot photo back to the TU International Students Department together with the additional application documents (see list below under “Application Documents Required”). There is a non-refundable 380 RMB application fee (approximately $62 USD) to be paid at the time of application via bank-wire transfer (see bank details below, under “Bank Payments to TU International Students Department”). TU accepts international students to begin study in the Fall semester of each academic year only. International students cannot begin study in the Spring semester.
Step 3:
Send in all requested materials by the application deadline of May 31st via email (see email addresses below under “Contacts”). The TU International Students Department will confirm receipt of application materials via email. Applications received after May 31st will not be considered for enrollment the following Fall semester.
C. Application Documents Required
All documents (PDF scan) to be sent via email for application consideration:
1.TU Application Form for International students (completed, typed, and signed)
2.A passport-sized headshot photo (on the completed form)
3.Valid passport front page (passport must have at least two [2] empty visa pages)
4.Certificate of the highest academic degree earned
5.Two(2) Recommendation letters from the applicant's school or other organization
6.Bank transfer confirmation receipt of 380 RMB application fee (approximately $62 USD, bank details provided below under “Bank Payments to TU International Students Department”)
D. Acceptance Notification
Around the beginning of August, TU will send accepted applicants an email informing them of their admission to TU. The TU International Students Department understands applicants eagerness to hear of an application decision in order to prepare for attending courses in Lhasa in September, therefore the TU International Students Department does its best to send the decision as early as possible and appreciates applicants patience. Inquiries to the TU International Students Department in June and July regarding the status of application decision will not speed up the decision process.
Upon receipt of the acceptance email congratulating successful applicants of their admission to TU, incoming international students will be requested to reply to the email as soon as possible to:
1.Confirm intention to attend TU in September,
2.Inform the TU International Students Department of their anticipated arrival date in Lhasa (possible arrival permitted from late August to September 15th) in order to prepare the incoming student’s Tibet Entrance Permit.
3.Send the address and phone number of a residence in China to send the Tibet Entrance Permit (if known). The incoming students must stay in mainland China for a minimum of 24 hours in order to receive this Tibet Entrance Permit which can not be mailed to an overseas address.(please refer to section 4 “China Visa Application and Tibet Entrance Permit”).
