As the only key comprehensive and co-established university of the Province and Ministry, Hebei University played an important and special role in the national education project. It is located in the outskirts of Beijing, which need only 30 minutes to go to Beijing by light rail, 1-1.5 hours by train or car. The predecessor of Hebei University is Tianjin Business University, which is established by the French Society of Jesus, then it experienced several periods, including Tianjin Business Institute, Jinggu University, Tianjin Normal Institute, and Tianjin Normal University. The name of Hebei University is confirmed in 1960, and it moved to national historical and cultural city --- Baoding in 1970.
Hebei University contained 192 hectares and its building area is 1,000,000 centiares, Which including Old Campus, New Campus and Medical School, etc. Hebei University has fine scenery campuses, excellent school-running conditions, and the only university press in Hebei Province. The library of Hebei University collects 3,900,000 documents, which is the 1st place of all libraries in Hebei Province. About 7,000 antiques and 600,000 plants and animals specimens are collected in Hebei University Museum, which is the first-class museum among national universities. As one of the top 100 hospitals in Hebei University, the affiliated Hospital of Hebei University is a centenary and A Class of 3rd Level hospital, which covered medical care, teaching, research, prevention care, and recovery function.
Hebei University covered 30 colleges and 5 common teaching departments. It also has 86 undergraduate majors, which distributed in 10 subjects except agriculture science; 7 doctor degree programs on first-grade subjects, 35 on second-grade subjects, and 30 master degree programs on first-grade subjects, 187 on second-grade subjects, 19 professional master degree programs; the master degree programs distributed in 11 subjects except military science, the doctor degree programs distributed in 8 subjects that covered engineering, history, education, literature, natural science, economics, philosophy and law. There are 8,000 faculty members in Hebei University, and 1/4 of them owned doctor degree. Hebei University has 41,000 full-time undergraduate students, 5,500 full-time doctor and master students and 350 short or long term international students.

It has established friendly relations with more than 80 universities and educational & research institutions of other countries, such as USA, Japan, Canada, Russia, Britain, France, Korea, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Australia and Malaysia. Especially in recent years, hundreds of experts from over ten countries were invited to teach, give short-term lectures, and conduct cooperative research.
