Hangzhou Dianzi University is located in Xiasha Higher Education Zone of Hangzhou, the capital of Zhejiang province. This city is the center of provincial politics, economy, culture, science and education. It lies in the most dynamic part of China and has a very convenient and modern transportation system. It covers an area of 16,596km2 with a population of 6.6 million.

As one of the seven ancient capitals and the key scenic tourism and historical culture cities in China, Hangzhou was once applauded as "the most splendid and luxurious city in the world" by Marco Polo, the Italian traveler in the 13th century. Hangzhou is known for its natural beauty of West Lake worldwide. "Above is paradise, below is Suzhou and Hangzhou" expresses people's sincere praise to Hangzhou. The West Lake Cultural Landscape of Hangzhou in China was successfully inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List as a cultural landscape property (2011). Hangzhou is famous for e-commerce industry. Alibaba, a globally known E-Commerce company of China was founded in Hangzhou. Jack Ma, the executive chairman of Alibaba once worked at HDU as a teacher for 7 years.

Why HDU

Hangzhou Dianzi University (HDU) was founded in 1956. It is a key teaching and research oriented university with its own distinctive programs in electronic science and technology, engineering and information technology as well as management and accounting. It ranks No. 43 among all the sci-tech universities in China, and is listed in top 5 universities within Zhejiang Province in 2015.

HDU has 4 campuses spread throughout downtown and Xiasha, the higher education park and the economic development zone. The Xiasha campus is the main campus and is largest in size, covering an area of approximately 329 acres.

HDU has over 28,000 registered students and more than 2,200 staff members. It has 25 schools and research institutes and offers 57 undergraduate programs, 53 postgraduate programs and 3 doctoral programs.

HDU’s dynamic scientific and technological research is well documented in the scientific community. In the recent years, HDU has completed a series of high-tech research projects as well as many state and provincial

research funded projects in different fields. HDU has played an increasingly important role in cultivating scientific research and social service talents within the province. The university emphasizes the comprehensive development of its students and works hard to cultivate high-quality talents with innovative spirits and practical skills. The university provides many opportunities for the students to participate in internships, both at home and abroad. In the recent years, HDU implements strategies of internationalization by establishing partner relationship and formal cooperation with about 50 universities out of the country. English-taught bachelor and master programs are set up to attract more and more international students.
