Length of Study: 3 years for full time program; 3-5 years for part-time program.

Specializations and Supervisor:

The supervisor for the specialization of Chinese Application is Prof. Guo Xi.

The supervisor for the specialization of Modern Chinese Grammar (grammar for teaching Chinese as a foreign language) is Prof. Peng Xiaochuan.

The supervisor for the specialization of Chinese and Relational Language is Prof. Ban Chao.

Subjects assessed in Entrance Examination:

Chinese application: 1.English; 2.Theories of Applied Linguistic. 3.Modern Chinese Studies

Modern Chinese Grammar: 1.English or Japanese;2. Theories and Tendency of Grammar Researching; 3. Methods and Practice of Grammar Research

Chinese and Relational Language: 1.English; 2. Chinese History; 3.The Introduction to Chinese and Tibet Dialect.

•  Master Graduate Program

Length of Study: 2 years for full time program; 3-5 years for part-time program

Major: Linguistics and Applied Linguistics (Currently this course has two overseas teaching locations. One, has been established at the T.E.D. Huaxia Institution, Singapore and another is at the Chinese Language Education and Research Center in California , USA .)

Specializations: Teaching Chinese as a Foreign/Second Language and Overseas Chinese Education, Pragmatics, Sociolinguistics, Style and Linguistic Stylistics, Psycholinguistics.

Subjects assessed in Entrance Examination:

1.English or Japanese; 2.Introducation to Linguistic; 3.Modern Chinese A; 4. Chinese Culture and Composition (Only after the first 3 exams are successfully completed.)

•  Full-time Undergraduate Programs

Length of Study: A standard credit system is adopted for the undergraduate program. The standard length of study is 4 years. Students can either graduate earlier or postpone their graduation until requirements are fully met.

A. Teaching Chinese as a Foreign/Second Language (Famous Brand of Guangdong Province )

Aim of Training: This major fosters advanced talents that grasp professional knowledge and skills of Chinese language and literature. It also facilitates good English proficiency so students are capable of engaging in Chinese teaching or culture exchange between China and other countries, as well as news media and management in enterprise and public institutions.

Main Courses: Linguistics (Modern Chinese, Classic Chinese, Introduction to Linguistics), Literature (Introduction to Literature, Classic Chinese Literature, Modern and Contemporary Chinese Literature, Foreign Literature, Writing, etc.), Culture (Introduction to Chinese Culture, Introduction to World Culture), Education (Theories of Second Language Acquisition, Educational Psychology, Methods of Chinese as a Foreign/Second Language Teaching in the Classrooms, etc.), English (English Listening and Speaking Skills, Advanced English, English Writing, English-Chinese Translation, etc.)

B. Chinese Language Class A (Chinese Information Processing, Chinese Language and Character Application)

Aim of Training: This major fosters applied-Chinese talents that grasp systematic knowledge and professional skills in computer language processing, Chinese philological application and Chinese literature, being capable of engaging language information processing, programming and management of Chinese Characters, journalism and publishing, commercial language design and secretarial skills.

Main Courses: Language Processing (Basic Programming and Application, Information Processing in Chinese, Internet Applications, Computational Linguistics, Experimental Phonetics, Corpus Linguistics); Social Pragmatics (Language of Public Relations, Secretarial Studies, Editorial Studies, Language in Law, Language in Journalism, Business Language, Composition, and Advertisement Language); Linguistics and Literature (Modern Chinese, Ancient Chinese, Introduction to Linguistics, History of Chinese Linguistics, Studies of Chinese Characters, Phonology and Critical Interpretation of Ancient Texts, Socio-linguistics, Psycholinguistics ,English Listening and Speaking Skills, Communicative English, Introduction to Literature, Classic Chinese Literature, Modern and Contemporary Chinese Literature, and Foreign Literature, etc.).

C. Chinese Language Class B (including two specialization: Chinese Language and Culture, and Commercial Chinese)

Aim of Training: This major fosters applied-Chinese talents that grasp systematic knowledge and professional skills in Chinese, with a general understanding of China . In addition, it enables graduates to engage in occupations related with Chinese language.

Main courses: Basic Chinese, Chinese Listening and speaking, Chinese Reading, Chinese Intensive Reading, Basic Writing, Modern Chinese Grammar, China Today, Chinese Folk Customs, Computer Application, etc. For Chinese language and culture specialization, there are some specialized Chinese courses including Advanced Chinese, Applied Writing, Chinese Communication, Audio-Visual Chinese, Modern and Contemporary Chinese Literature, and Chinese Traditional Culture, etc. For Commercial Chinese specialization, there are Intensive Reading in Business Chinese, Oral Chinese for Business, Business Chinese Writing, Modern Chinese Economy, Practice of International Business.

D. Overseas Chinese Education Class A/B/C (New Major)

Aim of Training: A bachelor's Degree of Education will be conferred to qualified students of this major. This major fosters inter-disciplinary, applied and professional talents with good Chinese-applied abilities, acquiring Chinese culture, while developing a command of general knowledge and professional skills for overseas Chinese education. Graduates will be able to engage in professions of overseas Chinese teaching, teaching management in schools, studying of overseas Chinese education, educational administrative management and cultural management,.

Note:

1. The major of Teaching Chinese as a Foreign/Second Language enrolls students with a Chinese Proficiency score of HSK Intermediate C Level or above. Students with this score can also enroll in the major of Chinese Language Class A and Overseas Chinese Education Class A. Students desiring to enroll in the major of Overseas Education Class B can be enrolled if their HSK Chinese Proficiency is between Intermediate C Level and elementary B level or with an equivalent Chinese proficiency. Students desiring to enroll in the major of Chinese Language B and Overseas Education C may do so without any Chinese background.

2. For students majoring in Chinese Language B and Overseas Education, a certificate of HSK Intermediate A Level or above is required for graduation.

IV. Full time Professional Training Program

Length of Study: Two years

Major: Chinese Language

Aim of Training:

This major fosters students' communication skill in Chinese through intensive training in the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing in Chinese. The main contents of the programs are Chinese language with some introduction to Chinese life and culture. Chinese proficiency will meet the basic need of life, study, work and communication in China after graduation.

Main Courses: Basic Chinese, Basic Conversation, Chinese Listening, Chinese Characters, Chinese Reading , Basic Writing, Modern Chinese Grammar , China Today, etc.
