Overview
1. CAS-TWAS President’s Fellowship Programme for PhD Candidates
According to a new agreement between the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) for the advancement of science in developing countries, up to 200 students/scholars from all over the world, including 60 from developed countries, will be sponsored to travel to China for PhD studies for up to four years.
Under the terms of the CAS-TWAS agreement, travel from their home countries to China will be provided to the fellowship awardees in order to begin the fellowship in China (one trip only per student/scholar). TWAS will select 80 awardees from developing countries to support their international travel, while CAS will support the other 120 including 60 from developed countries. Any awardee on site in China, the host country, at the time of application will NOT be eligible for any travel reimbursement. Visa fee will also be covered (once only per student/scholar).
Fellowship awardees will receive a monthly stipend (to cover accommodation and other living expenses, local travel expenses and health insurance) of RMB 7,000 or RMB 8,000 from CAS through the host university, depending on whether he/she has passed the qualification test arranged by the host university for all PhD candidates after admission. All awardees will also be provided tuition and admission fee waivers.
The funding duration of the fellowship is up to 4 years, divided into:
1) Maximum 1 year study of courses and participation in centralized training at the host university, including 4 months compulsory courses in Chinese Language and Culture.
2) Practical research and completion of degree thesis at colleges and schools of the host university.
General conditions for applicants:
Applicants must:
1) Be maximum age of 35 years on 31 December 2015;
2) Not take up other assignments during the period of his/her fellowship;
3) Not hold Chinese citizenship;
Applicants for PhD study should also:
1) Meet the admission criteria for international students
2) Hold a master degree before the beginning of the fall semester: 1 September, 2015. Provide evidence that s/he will return to their home country on completion of their studies in China according to CAS-TWAS agreement.
3) Provide proof of knowledge of English or Chinese language.
Note: Applicants currently pursuing PhD degrees at any university/institution in China are NOT eligible for this fellowship.

2.“Chinese Government Scholarship – University Postgraduate Program”
Chinese Government Scholarship—Chinese University Program is a scholarship established by Ministry Of Education (MOE) to support Chinese universities in specific provinces or autonomous regions to recruit outstanding international students for graduate studies in China. MOE authorized USTC to recruit full-time master and doctoral students under the Chinese Government Scholarship since 2008.
Coverage of the scholarship
Students are exempt from registration fee, tuition fee, fee for laboratory experiment, fee for internship, and fee for basic learning materials, and accommodation fee for dormitory on campus;
Living allowance;
One-off settlement subsidy after registration for new student studying in China for the first time;
Comprehensive Medical Insurance and Protection Scheme for International Students in China
Qualifications for scholarship application
1.Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens and mentally and physically healthy;
2.Applicants must not be a registered student in Chinese universities at the time of application; or be a graduate from Chinese universities for more than one year;
3.Education background and age limit:
Applicants for master’s degree studies must have bachelor’s degree (equivalent to bachelor’s degree in China) and be under the age of 35 (by September, 1st, 2015);
Applicants for doctoral studies must have master’s degree (equivalent to master’s degree in China) and be under the age of 40 (by September, 1st, 2015);

3. USTC Fellowship
USTC Fellowship is established for international students to study at the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC). USTC Fellowship has two categories as USTC Fellowship A and USTC Fellowship B. USTC Fellowship A is designed for degree seeking students, while USTC Fellowship B for exchange students from partner universities.
USTC Fellowship covers tuition, registration fee, housing, as well as 1500 RMB per month allowance for undergraduate students or 1700 RMB per month allowance for master’s students or 2000 RMB per month allowance for doctoral students.
Requirements for USTC Fellowship A:
Applicants for undergradaute studies must have high school certificate (equivalent to high school certificate in China) and be under the age of 30 (by September, 1st, 2015);
Applicants for master’s degree studies must have bachelor’s degree (equivalent to bachelor’s degree in China) and be under the age of 40 (by September, 1st, 2015);
Applicants for doctoral studies must have master’s degree (equivalent to master’s degree in China) and be under the age of 45 (by September, 1st, 2015);
Requirements for USTC Fellowship B:
Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens and mentally and physically healthy;
Applicants must be students studying in first-class universities in the world;
Undergraduate applicants must be recommended by partner universities, while postgraduate applicants must be recommended by professors from both partner universities and USTC.

5. For degree seeking students, acceptance letter from USTC professor, and one recommendation letter from a professor outside; for exchange students, two recommendation letters, including one from USTC professor (Undergraduate applicants must also be recommended by partner universities, while postgraduate applicants must be recommended by professors from both partner universities and USTC.)
Applicants should submit application to related schools/departments/labs. Then schools/departments/labs will recommend applications to Teaching Affairs Office or Graduate School. Schools/departments/labs can recommend applications for USTC Fellowship A only once a year before May 30; while schools/departments/labs can recommend applications for USTC Fellowship B twice a year before March 1 and Sept. 1.
