



The Program of Chinese Economics at Tianjin University of Commerce for Foreign Student
Tianjin, with a history of 600 years, is a famous historical and cultural municipality with lots of historic sites in north China. It has prominent characteristics of folk culture with deep rich connotation, such as special flavor snacks and many kinds of folk arts.
In recent years, Tianjin has scored great achievements in her economic and social development. In 2007, the per capita GDP is over US$6000. The amount of foreign-invested enterprises has exceeded 20 thousand, and the accumulated actual use of foreign capital has achieved US$37.6 million.
Tianjin, the largest coastal city in the northern China, lies in the center of Bohai Rim Region, adjoining Beijing and radiating North, Northwest and Northeast China, even for Northeast Asia. The vast hinterland, predominant location and abundant industrial bases provide Tianjin with highly favorable conditions for its development.
After entering the new century, particularly since 2006, the Chinese government takes Binhai New Area as one of the important components of National Development Strategy, which gives Tianjin and Binhai New Area a significant development opportunity. The openness and development is about to make Tianjin become China’s new economic growth pole after Shenzhen and Shanghai.
Tianjin University of Commerce, which is excelled at the discipline of economics and management, has gained a great deal of foreign students teaching experience since 1992 when TJCU began to recruit foreign students. Full taking the advantages of profession, International Education College of TJCU provides maximum flexibility to meet students’ different needs, which is very popular with them.
In order to let foreign students understand Chinese economy much more systematically, the university launches the program of economics (Chinese Economics), which offers reasonable theoretical classes and practical activities mixed with the economic development of Tianjin and China.
Chinese Economics provides students with four different types of classes (Program A, Program B, Program C and Program D) to meet their favorites. Based on the advantage of business area, the professional faculty in economic and management and the great experiences in Chinese teaching, TJCU combine economic knowledge with language teaching in order to meet needs of those students who are interested in economy and culture of China. The program aims to bring students up to be high-quality, internationalized, and versatile talents. Graduates are well acquainted with Chinese economic law and regulations, familiar with the customs and market environment of China, and able to communicate in Chinese during business activities.
The program is appropriate to foreigners of different Chinese language levels who are engaged in trade with China or have great interests in Chinese language and culture. And it also suits to international students who hold a degree over senior high school level and staffs who participate in further study arranged by their company and so on.
Chinese Economics Program Description (Program A, B, C)
According to students’ different Chinese basis, TJCU sets up two types of programs (A, B). Program A is taught in English, and Program B in Chinese. TJCU also offers Chinese training course in Program C, for those students who have a little Chinese skill or no Chinese foundation. (The following table shows more in details):

Chinese Economics Undergraduate Program(D)
Chinese Economics is a featured major, especially for foreign students. The purposes of the undergraduate majoring in economics are to develop the capabilities of students with advanced Chinese and computer skills, to acquaint them with basic theoretical framework of economics, and to familiarize them with Chinese culture and economic background.
Undergraduates can engage in economic policy and theory research, providing business policy and strategy for multinationals, supportive decision making in transnational economic activities. Students who complete the curriculum between 4-6 years, the designated degree courses, the bachelor thesis, and successfully defend their thesis, will be conferred graduation certificate along with the bachelor degree.
