The short-term programs provide an economical and speedy way to learn Chinese language and experience Chinese culture.
II. Advantages
1. The University of Jinan is located in the city of Jinan, which has a history of more than 4,000 years. The Yellow river, the cradle of ancient Chinese civilization, goes through the north of Jinan city; Mount Tai, ranking first of the five great mountains in China, is within one hour’s drive to the south; Linzi, the capital of the ancient Qi State (around 1000 B.C.– 221 B.C.), is to the east of Jinan; and Qufu, the hometown of Confucius, is to the southwest. And what’s more important is the people in Jinan, who enjoy high fame of hospitality. All makes Jinan the first choice to experience traditional Chinese culture;
2. No prior knowledge of Chinese is required for the applicants;
3. The programs combine Chinese language study and culture experience, especially Confucianism.
4. The programs are available all the year, and application can be accepted anytime.
III. Programs
1. Program for Chinese Language Study
—Duration of study: 1-4 weeks, 15-20 hours per week.
—Basic, intermediate and advanced levels are designed according to your knowledge of Chinese.
—Curricula: Chinese characters, Speaking, Listening, Reading, Writing, Martial Art, Calligraphy, Chinese Painting, etc.
2. Program for Chinese Culture
—Duration of study: 1-4 weeks, 15-20 hours per week.
—Study approach: lectures, exchange with professors or experts, visits to places of interests.
—Optional topics: Confucius and Confucianism, Education Thoughts of Confucius, Mencius Thoughts, Sun Zi’s The Art of War, Traditional Filial Piety, Longshan Ancient Culture, Shandong Culture, Shandong Embroidery, Chinese Martial Art, Chinese Calligraphy, Chinese Cuisine(Shandong Cuisine).
3. Program for Traditional Arts
—Duration of study: 1-2 weeks.
—Study approach: lectures, visits to historic sites.
—Optional topics: Chinese Painting, Kites, Porcelain, Martial Arts, Shandong Embroidery, Acrobatics, Longshan Black Pottery Culture, etc.
4. Program for Study on Modern China
—Duration of study: 1-4 weeks, 15-20 hours per week.
—Methods of study: lectures, exchange with professors or experts, visits.
—Optional topics: Modern China (Chinese history included), Chinese Geography, Chinese Economy, Chinese Legislation, Chinese Social Reforms, etc.
All the programs may include trips to Mountain Tai, Confucius hometown, Jinan City (Baotu Spring, Daming Lake, Olympic Center, Horticulture Exposition), etc.
