Introduction to Beijing Jiaotong University

    In order to satisfy the urgent demand for economic structure strategic adjustment and software industry's demand for talents, Ministry of Education of China and the State Development and Reform Commission issued the document of "Notice on Approval of Some Related Universities to Run Pilot Software Engineering Schools". For realizing the leapfrog development on software engineering talents cultivation, the School of Software Engineering (SSE) in Beijing Jiaotong University (BJTU) is established on February 12, 2003.

    As one of the 37 National Pilot Software Engineering Schools and the pioneer of education system reform and teaching mechanism innovation in BJTU, School of Software Engineering carries the expectations of the university. As the important software engineering talents cultivation base, SSE has made valorous innovations in management system, operation mechanism, education philosophy, talent cultivation program and curriculum construction, education model and methodology, and the union of industry-study-research. Simultaneously, SSE has explored and found an effective way to cultivate "internationalized, industrialized, high-level and comprehensive" software engineering talents, which is called "2+1+1" talents cultivation model.

    There are 910 students in SSE at present (with 710 undergraduates and 200 postgraduates), 84 teachers (11 full-time lecturers and 76 part-time lecturers), and 32 internship bases outside the university. The software engineering curriculum has been constructed, and the overall implementation of teaching, training, internship and the school-enterprise cooperation have launched. The industrialized talents cultivation model has been formed and the teaching pattern with different levels and multiple directions has been established.
