Location: Luzhou stands in the southeast of Sichuan Province, at the convergence of Sichuan, Chongqing, Yunnan and Guizhou. It is bordered by Chongqing and Chengdu in the east and the north, sharing boundary with the southern Guizhou Province and western Yunnan Province. Distance from Luzhou to Chongqing and Chengdu are respectively 177 and 263 kilometers (109 and 163 miles).

History: Around the Qin Dynasty (221BC-206BC), incomers from Central China brought advance technique and civilization to this region, greatly promoting the development of Luzhou's economy and culture. In the Song Dynasty (960-1279), Luzhou became a vital communication hub in Southwest China, busy in vintage brewing and salt production. Trading with ethnic minorities also developed greatly at this period. In Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), it had been a political, economical, military and culture center at the convergent area between Sichuan and surrounding provinces.

Physical Features: Luzhou lies at the transition area between southern Sichuan Basin and Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau. The terrain slopes downward from the south to the north. River valleys and hills make the northern Luzhou a land of honey and milk. Its southern mountainous area boasts rich forest and mineral resources.

Climatic Features: Enjoying a subtropical humid climate, the city is warm in spring and autumn, hot in summer and the winter is not so cold. Due to the topographic influence, climate in southern Luzhou varies in different regions ranging from temperate climate to subtropical climate. Drought and rainstorm may attack the city in summer. Special Local product: Longan, litchi, Luzhou Laojiao (a kind of Daqu liquor), paper umbrella

1. Luzhou Airport is the second largest airport in Sichuan. The airport is about 8 kilometers (5 miles) southwest of Luzhou City operating flights to Beijing, Guangzhou, Kunming and Guiyang.

2. In Luzhou city proper, there are seven long-distance bus stations in total. Together with these in city proper, bus stations in other areas also operate buses to big cities, such as Chengdu, Chongqing, Guangzhou and Shenzhen, or counties within the city. Luzhou is about three hours' drive from Chengdu and only one hour and a half to Chongqing.
