Characteristics of non-degree students teaching and learning

At present, our college adopts comprehensive methods of teaching Chinese. This teaching methods are learner-centered while the teacher plays a leading role in the classroom management. This teaching theory stimulates high levels of active participation in student learners. It effectively enhances Chinese learning by promoting students’ language development. The authentic atmosphere provided by Nankai teachers allows learners to immerse themselves in living language contexts, which encourages a productive learning mentality. This setting also promotes teacher-to-student as well as student-to-student interaction. Classes are divided into two sections: lecture and discussion. Lecture focuses on language, grammar and texts, while discussion gives priority to listening comprehension and verbal application. Teachers incorporate multi-media software to enhance teaching materials. Beginners have the opportunity to advance to degree-seeking programs through good HSK scores after only three or four months of learning.

Optional Classes for Non-degree Students
The curriculum provides classes centered on various aspects of Chinese culture, such as: Chinese calligraphy, painting, cooking, Pecking opera, acquisition of the Er hu(a traditional instrument), folk songs, material arts, massage, taichi, economics, trading, Chinese technology, philosophy, etc. These classes have been popular among the overseas students.

Degree Students Teaching and Learning

The college enrolls degree students for spring semester and autumn semester each year. Two majors are offered: Chinese language, and  Chinese economics and trade.

The college chooses through public appraisal for the excellent students, excellent monitors and the students without absence, then grant the scholarships and certificates to them.

Colorful after-school activities

Our college provides language partner in Tianjin and Beijing every semester. We also provide various kinds of after school activities, such as: table tennis match, volleyball match, basketball match, photography competition, Kara OK, debate match, composition match and get-together among the students and teachers.

HSK Examination

The college was designed by the Central Government as the only testing site of the HSK Chinese proficiency exam in Tianjin, including basic, beginning , intermediate and advanced levels. Nankai university also provides Certificate of Chinese Language Instruction for international students. It is convenient for learners to register and participate in these examinations.
