Brief Introduction of the Chinese Language Program

Qualification of Applicants

     Any foreigner, overseas Chinese, or compatriot from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan may apply directly to the Foreign Student Affairs Office of Tsinghua University. The applicants need to have a formal education background at the high school level or above, a good moral character, be aged 18-55 and in good health.

Application Schedule

     There are two semesters in one academic year. Applicants for the Spring Semester (Feb. 2008 - July 2008) Program must submit their application before December 15th, 2007 and those for the Autumn Semester (Sep 2008 - Jan 2009) must submit their application before June 15th, 2008 (legal holidays and weekends excluded). Long-term students (more than one semester) will have to pay tuition fee at the time of registration. The tuition fee will not be returned to students who drop out of the program and there will be no reduction in tuition fee for a late entrance.

Application Procedures

     Applicants may submit or post the following materials to the Foreign Student Affairs Office by the application due date. Applications via email or fax are NOT accepted. The materials to be submitted includes: (Non-returnable)

  • The completed Foreigner's Application Form for Admission to Chinese Language Program of Tsinghua University (Download)
  • Final schooling certificate and academic records (Photocopy)
  • A photocopy of the applicant's passport
  • Any applicant who has studied at another university in China must submit a Transfer certificate issued by the Foreign Students Office of that university.

     Applications with insufficient materials will not be accepted.

Admission and Entrance

     Applicants admitted by Tsinghua University will receive an Admission Notice, JW202 (Visa Application Form for Foreigners), and Form of Physical Examination Record for Foreigners (only for X visa applicants) from the Foreign Student Affairs Office. The admitted applicants should bring their Passport, Admission Notice,Visa Application Form for Foreigners, the Form of Physical Examination Record for Foreigners and Blood Test Record to the Embassy or Consulate of the People's Republic of China and apply for a student visa. Students must register before the registration deadline and apply for a Residence Permit (for X visa holders) within 30 days after arriving in China. Compatriots from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan should have valid entry permits.

Tuition Fee and others
1. Application Fee 400 yuan (non-refundable)
2. Tuition Fee 10,500 yuan/per semester (Elective classes not included)
3. Accidental Injury and
Hospitalization Insurance Fee
300 yuan/per semester
