Course Description:
Name of the Course: Chinese Language and Culture.
Credits: 20 credit hours per week, 40 minutes per credit hour.
Class time: 8:40~11:50 am from Monday to Friday.
Length of Time for class: 20 weeks(one semester).

In addition, to all international students we provide Chinese culture courses, including Chinese history, traditional painting, calligraphy, paper cutting, Tai Chi, and so on. On weekends and holidays we also organize students to visit places of interest such as Terracotta Warriors or around Xi’an.
IntroductionShaanxi University of Science and Technology (SUST) is a provincial level university, the only multi-disciplinary higher educational institution west of China focusing on light industry needs. SUST is a member of the Foundation Construction Project for the Midwest China universities. This new government project is aimed at strengthening 100 of higher educational institutions mid-west of China, and is offering five-year grants for educational quality improvement.
Established in Beijing in 1958 as Beijing Institute of Light Industry it was under the administration of State Ministry of Light Industry. The University was the first institution covering educational needs of Chinese light industry. In 1970 The University was renamed to Northwest Institute of Light Industry and moved to Xianyang City in Shaanxi Province. It was in 1978 when it was recognized as one of 88 key universities in China by the State Council. Approved in 2002 by the Ministry of Education, the University acquired its present name - Shaanxi University of Science and Technology - and in 2007, it was moved to a new campus in Xi’an, the capital city of Shaanxi Province (state), one of the world’s renowned historical capitals. Located north of Xi’an and 2.6 km from Xianyang International Airport, 3 km from Xi’an Bullet Train Station, SUST enjoys a unique geographical location, covering an area of 137 hectares.
Over the period of 50 years, SUST enjoys the alumni of more than 60,000 highly qualified specialists, among which are executives, technical personnel, teachers or researchers of leading research institutions or business leaders in various fields. SUST offers programs in seven major disciplines, including engineering, science, management, literature, law, medicine, and economics. This comprises 58 bachelor degree programs, 71 master and 17 doctoral degree programs. Currently, altogether 1200 teachers provide quality educational and training services to 23,000 full-time undergraduate students and 2,700 graduate students. Besides, SUST has established 3 post-doctoral programs since 2007 in Materials Science and Engineering, Light Industry Technology and Engineering, and Chemistry and Chemical Engineering.
SUST has 10 colleges, 3 teaching departments, 30+ research institutes, 40+ laboratories, and other facilities, such as libraries, student dormitories, canteens, gymnasiums, and two large outdoor swimming pools. It enjoys 6 provincial level key disciplines, 16 provincial and ministerial level key laboratories and engineering centers. Finally, SUST has acquired seven nation-level famous program specialties: Leather Chemistry and Engineering, Pulp and Paper Engineering, Applied Chemistry, Mechanical Design and Theory, Materials, Packaging Engineering, and Materials Physics and Chemistry.

Entry1. International students, who abide by the laws of China, observe SUST regulations, respect habits and customs of the Chinese people, and are in good health are welcome to apply for studying at SUST. For undergraduate study, a high school diploma is required；for master’s degree program, an undergraduate diploma or a bachelor degree certificate is needed；for doctoral degree program, a certificate of master’s degree is a prerequisite to enroll.
2. Those wishing to apply for programs in Chinese should pass level 4 of the HSK Examinations (Chinese Proficiency Examinations) to be eligible for training at SUST; Those who apply for programs in English should have a fluent level of English, certified by a TOEFL score of 60, IELTS 5.0 or equivalent (except for the students whose native language is English).
3. Deadline for Applications is May 31 to apply for the following academic year. At SUST: first semester – September to January; second semester – February to July.
4.Registration: Applicants are required to report at SUST within specified time with the Passport and Admission Letter on hand, Health Certificate (obtained from hospitals at home countries), and tuition fee equivalent in RMB. Also, 10 half-length photos of one inch without cap are required.
