Huaiyin Institute of Technology is one of the provincial institutions of higher learning in North Jiangsu province. It is located in Huaian, a famous historical & cultural city as well as the hometown of Zhou Enlai who was the first Premier of the People's Republic of China. HYIT was founded in 1958, and in 2000 it was upgraded to an undergraduate institution granting bachelor’s degree. In September 2011, it was selected as one of the pilot institutions undertaking “A Plan for Educating and Training Outstanding Engineers (PETOE)”. In October 2011, approved by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, it was authorized to offer Master Degree of Engineering.
HYIT has two campuses—Meicheng Road Campus and Beijing Road Campus---covering an area of about 2070 mu (about 148 hectares). HYIT has perfect infrastructure and facilities and a floored space of 570,000 square meters. HYIT consists of 16 faculties and colleges, offering Bachelor degrees in 59 programs and Master degree in 1 program. There are over 18,000 registered regular students studying for bachelor’s degrees or master’s degree. HYIT has a staff of 1,366, among whom there are 1,037 faculty members, including 454 professors and associate professors, 910 with doctor or master degrees, 71 postgraduate advisers, 37 enterprise advisers and 77 part-time advisers of master and doctorate candidates.
HYIT actively promotes to build the first Taiwanese Businessman College in china. HYIT has been enhancing the linkage and cooperation with overseas universities in USA, Canada, Australia, Japan, India, Malaysia, New Zealand and Singapore. Every year, many students go abroad to study and also many teachers study abroad or work as international visiting scholars. At the same time, many foreign experts coming from USA, Canada, Britain, Australia and other countries have been working in HYIT for years.
